Team RadioShack director Johan Bruyneel has announced he’ll be sending a team to the SRAM Tour of Gila in New Mexico as a training race for his American riders.
There’s a good chance Lance Armstrong will be one of those American riders as they gear up for the Tour of California in May.
A year ago, Lance Armstrong added the Gila race at the last minute to provide him another opportunity to race. He was coming off a broken collarbone and needed to shed some rust before he competed in the Giro d’Italia, then the Tour de France..
This year, Gila can be used to prepare for the Tour of California, which was pushed back three months on the schedule because of weather concerns.
The Gila race is April 28-May 2. The California event is May 16-23. It had been in February.
Armstrong returned to Austin last week. He has no European races on his schedule until June. He already has tested his time trial bike at a wind tunnel in North Carolina and likely will be doing some altitude training in Colorado.

I think it will be god for lance to do the race. It will make up for what he lost in the previous race where he had to pull out because of illness.

It’s good to see Lance engaging in and supporting American racing. We’re really hoping Lance will consider joining the RadioShack team at the Tour of Missouri this year!
