Waiting for the Team Radioshack Debut

Waiting for the Team Radioshack Debut

I don’t know what’s worse, being a five-year-old kid waiting for Christmas morning or being a cycling fan and waiting for the 2010 season to begin.  After a stellar 2009 campaign, US sponsored teams have been more than competitive, succeeding at the highest levels of the sport.  Now, as a chill permeates the air, most of us are searching the closet and storage room for our favorite arm warmers, base layers, gloves and the like.

For most cyclists, not pedaling their carbon steed up the nearest hill is out of the question, even in unforgiving weather.  So, in between training rides, we immerse ourselves in winter sports and search TV listings for anything involving competitive cycling, even a re-run, to soothe the withdrawal pangs.  2009’s successes will make this off-season harder than most, full of anxious anticipation.

While spring is most assuredly coming, it might seem like an eternity, as the debut of Team Radioshack becomes imminent.  Daily we are teased with informational tidbits about the Team ricocheting around the Internet and print media.  Everyone wants the answers to who, what, when and where.  So we search the articles and look for answers…What’s the final team roster look like?  Who will be on the Tour de France squad in 2010?  What will the new team kit look like?  What type Trek will they be riding?

History has shown that success breeds success and that it’s about making the right moves at the right times while being consistent in the process.  Lance Armstrong, Bruyneel and their team of handpicked combatants are prepping for the fray while building on past glory.

Having already experienced incomparable success in the world’s most famous cycling venue, everyone will be watching to see if that history can translate into success at even greater levels.  Odds of lightning striking an eighth time, very good, so better stay grounded.  Still, there are young and talented Europeans ready to make a game of it but do they have the team to make it happen?  We will soon see.  Stay tuned in and tuned up for what could be history in the making!
