I had the great experience of helping him in the tour of GA get his team car back to the start line with equip.

The guy is humble and real. He was all about the team. Gave me some cool swag too.

Love Eki, so glad you are with Johan and Lance. I have your water bottle, left on your bike, from one of the first races in San Francisco (US Postal) before the week long Tour of California started.

Jordi, Lance didn’t look to pick up Ekimov to “make sure he didn’t get beat” in a time trial (?!). He picked him up because he was a mature rider who knew what it took to ride the tour and ride it well, who still was clearly quite capable and a proven commodity as a team player. Smart decision as it turned out, and if Ekimov had outperformed him in another time trial it would have been totally fine. Winning a time trial is a great achievement to be sure, but Lance’s focus was on the GC, and it still is.

It was a good move by lance to hire top rival Eki after loosing tour Dupond in the time trials to make sure he would not beat him again. He is a top name with lots to offer.

i must admit when i looked quickly at the list and saw Eki’s name (BEFORE i noticed the “director” title) my first thought that he MUST be 75 years old!!!

awesome that he is part of the team. always one of my favorites. and perhaps if a few riders go down to injuries…

As the author of some of these pieces I have to plead mia culpa to my obvious bias toward TRS. But aside from that, there’s also pretty good reason to lavish praise on these boys. There are living legends on this team! ‘Eki’ is surely one of them. Many have a proven track record, they have a rock solid organization to work within and they have excellent sponsor commitment. The founding members of this team will continue to stay at the forefront of this sport for many, many years. Just watch. And thanks for your comments.

I remember his flyers off the front in the closing kilometers of Tour de France stages. Simply awesome.

Eki started and finished every Tours de France that he entered…for 15 years!! While racing for Team Discovery, he supported Lance Armstrong, coming out of retirement to do so (after Lance asked him to) and even gave him a wheel after one of Lance’s accidents during Lance’s 3rd win. He is a true cyclist, team member and after meeting him, I know that he is also a great person as well. I am glad that I’ll be able to see him riding in the car in support of Lance’s new Team Radio Shack…the way that it should be!!!
