Tiago Machado

Tiago Machado (born October 18, 1985 in Vila Nova de Famalicão) is a Portuguese road racing cyclist who most recently rode for UCI Continental Team Madeinox-Boavista. He turned professional in 2005 with Carvalhelhos-Boavista. The team’s name changed to Riberalves-Boavista for 2007 and Madeinox-Boavista for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Boavista F.C. is a large sports club in Portugal dedicated to numerous sports including cycling.

Machado has enjoyed a good deal of success in his nation’s road race competitions, both the time trial and the road race, placing either 1st or 2nd five times in the last 3 years between Under-23 and elite competitions. This past year he dominated his nation’s individual time trial beating his nearest rival by 1 minute 22 seconds over a 40.5 km course averaging 48.1 km/h.

His results to date include: 1st U23 National Time Trial Champion and Volta a Terras de Santa Maria in 2006, U23 National Time Trial Champion and 2nd overall GP du Portugal in 2007, 1st overall Trophée Joaquim Agostinho, 2nd National Road Race Championships and 2nd National Time Trial Championships in 2008. National Time Trial Champion, 2nd overall Vuelta a Asturias, 2nd overall Trophée Joaquim Agostinho, 4th overall Volta ao Algarve and 7th overall Volta a Portugal in 2009.
