Lance Armstrong and Mark Cavendish have missed out on a key team member after American George Hincapie chose to join the BMC Racing outfit.
Hincapie, who supported Armstrong during his seven Tour de France wins, was widely expected to join Armstrong’s new Team Radioshack squad for 2010.
But the 36-year-old has signed a two-year deal at BMC as he leaves Team Columbia-HTC.
Team Radioshack misses out on George Hincapie

I guess its a bit like growing up. Maybe he wants his time in the sunshine without being the person in Lance,s team, great rider that he is.

It’s not about his time in the sun. GH has always been his own man, even when riding for someone else’s win. It’s about new challenges and goals for GH, and with BMC he gets it. BMC is a contennential pro team without a UCI licence. They are 2nd tier team every since Phonak disbanded as a result of the Landis scandal. BMC is about building a new young American-Swiss team from the ground up that can one day become one of the premier outfits in all of cycling. GH will not only be a part of this, he will have a direct hand in this goal. Its noble as any in cycling as it pushes the limits of American Cycling and creates excitement for smaller teams that will spend a majority of their seasons in the US. Ballan also left to join BMC, and believe me this team will be something to watch next year. US Cycling fans should be exstatic about this, I know I am. The Tours of Georgia, Califoria, Utah, Missouri and Maybe Colorado will have something great to look forward to.
It is unclear at this point exactly what wildcard entries the team will get into the majors, but with GH it’s a possibility that a TDF invite might not be out of the realm of possibility. Great move GH we are rooting for you, Go BMC!

George does not care about another TDF for anyone……he wants one spring classic for himself – as he should. Ballan and the others make a super strong classics team and George’s opportunity to take Flanders or Roubaix. Either would be amazing and a great ending for one of the most consistent classics riders in the peleton.

I could not agree any better with the above two Dylan and Albert. You said it all. With the strong mix of riders on teams in the 2009 TDF we saw some of the best racing in years. Great Move GH. and good luck rock on and win a BIG one you so so very much deserve one. So too did our former (past – team lance strong guy)Bobby Julich.

I think it was just that he had already committed to bmc, otherwise I think he would have joined lamce…… there is nothing personal by any of this. its just timing really. Good luck to both bmc and radioshack.
Lance wins his 8th
