Portuguese rider Nelson Oliveira has just won the national time trial championships on the circuit of Pataias in Portugal. Things are really happening for the rider who is in his first year as a professional, riding for Team Radioshack. Just a little over a week ago Oliveira finished fourth in the Tour de Suisse time trial, which was won by Leopard Trek’s Fabian Cancellara ahead of Leipheimer and Kloden.
Oliveira explained that he was motivated after the good result last week, and he knew he could win the time trial in Portugal, which will allow him to wear the Portuguese flag on his jersey in the coming season. Although this is his first national time trial title in the elite category, he has already won the title 6 times before, as a cadet, junior and U23.
“Already after the first of two laps, Nelson had the best time. We knew the other split times and had everything under control. Nelson is still young but already very experienced in this discipline,” said Team Director José Azevedo.
We are looking forward to seeing more of this promising talent on Team Radioshack, who is now resting before riding Tour de Wallonie, July 23-27, 2011.
