Team RadioShack has just given us die-hard fans a sneak preview of its new jersey for our inaugural racing season and it looks great! Tell me Lance Armstrong doesn’t look great in that thing. Now before you go out and buy matching helmets, socks, gloves, water bottles, repaint your bike and get tattoos we have to place a cautionary note here – this is a working prototype of the jersey whose final design is not be revealed until the Santos Tour Down Under in Australia staring January 19th. However, it’s apparent that this design is pretty close to the real deal that you’ll be watching as the boys start to make their presence felt in the first race of the season. In fact we hear the boys are wearing similar kits right now in Arizona as they begin training as a complete squad riding in team colors for the first time.
They’re obviously as excited as we are about their prospects this year and it comes through in their explanation of the kit. Here’s the exact words from the official announcement, “It was our goal this year to create something visually distinctive and a look that was symbolic of what we feel Team RadioShack is all about: cutting edge technology, speed, strength, determination and a global message to LIVESTRONG. The experts at Nike and our partners at RadioShack helped to create this fast form-fitting design using various textures and patterns symbolizing the themes of new technology, global connectivity and community. We think it looks pretty damn cool.” A semi-swear word in an official announcement? Says one thing to me….they’re pumped!

Love lance and the other members of the team, but part of the problem is probably that it’s Radioshack, an overpriced outdated electronics store, and not some other cool company. Agree that the jersey looks weak.

Ouch, this is awful looking, any over the counter kit from Nashbar, Performance, etc. is better looking then this. You have the colors to make an awesome kit, please take the time and get it right before the season begins.

Looks like a throwback to the jerseys of the late 80s and early 90s. Since then the riders and bike technology have dramatically improved; the team deserves a 21st century jersey!

I think Team Radioshack should do the same thing as Garmin Slipsteam did years ago and have a contest and have the people design the team kit and pick one of the entries.

The kit is the kit. Trust me – they don’t make much money on Freds buying full team kits anyway. Red is Radio Shack’s color, so it’ll more than likely dominate the jersey. Plus this is an early design mock up – it’ll likely be refined quite a bit and made to look much better – remember High Road’s first kit? Plus – it’s hard to tell the overall look w/o the bibs. My sources say they are trying to go a bit retro rather than the disaster that the Astana kits became. Hopefully that means black bibs with a side panel . . .

I really don’t like this jersey. It’s not so much that it’s a bad design, but it’s such an anti-climax. Everyone is expecting a lot of success from this team – it would be a shame to have to put up with this jersey each time they win or take command of the race.
Like most, I will still support Lance, Radioshack and Livestrong. It’d be nice to have a cool jersey I can wear as well.

I agree with the majority – underwhelming. On reflection it has too many colours and looks confused. Drop the grey for black to tie in the yellow and black of Livestrong (and the mighty Richmond Tigers in Aussie Rules Football!) and change the side panels from white to black also with ‘The Shack’ in white lettering. I would also also consider a thin white line between the body of the red and the upper portion to better deliniate between the two areas. Combined with black knicks with white lettering and the Livestrong yellow on the left band the kit could look really menacing.
Translate the Comment
While the team performance will speak clearly, the new jersey design fails to convey any graphic message. Really, with all the hi-tech graphics available today you can do MUCH better.
Translate the Comment
Needs some serious tweeking. suggest all logo’s except R be in yellow. Next suggest that the half of the sublimated dark grey dots be red and go from smaller to larger as you proceed from top to bottom of jersey. On a fully grey kit the same as it is now. Finish up with dots the size of the ones on the left sleeve near the livestrong band. for a really loud jersey you could go with red and yellow and grey dots. Worth a try on a computer simulation (mockup).

Red is ALWAYS a great color – but switch the bright color to the top, grey to bottom. You definitely want to highlight the sholders and trim the middle. Black trim/highlights always brings the other colors out more. Is it my monitor or is that a strange shade of red? Adding a bit of contrasting color (blue, green, etc.) would make the red pop more, too.
Translate the Comment
Studies have proven that teams that were red win more often than any other color. I have been involved with ordering/approving uniforms and we were not allowed to use ANY black for years and it was difficult to come up with a design that SHOUTED/ANNOUNCED “Our Team Is Here To Win”.

I think the colors should be red, white & Trek blue !!! You can’t leave out the blue, too much history there, you think of the Tour de France, Lance & Trek, and you think of blue (the blue trains baby !). Replace the gray with blue, maybe switch the side panels to red & have the front & back white, add TREK on there and a few more graphics like the bike has on the top tube…. you would have a great looking jersey that will fly off the racks & the colors would pay homage to the sponsers and the country.
Translate the Comment
I don’t have a problem with the design or colors of the kit as much as the color hues (although black would probably be better than the gray). The colors are way too muted and will make it hard to spot in a pack. The majority of exposure that the kit will receive will be via television, magazines and the internet. While the colors may be seem bright enough in person, they don’t “pop” in print. Take a look at the colors used on NASCAR cars. On television they look red, yellow, etc., but in real life, they are neon and are extremely bright.
Translate the Comment
I was hoping for a more vibrant color than gray(maybe black, white or yellow?)…to make it easier for me to see the team in the peloton. The shade of red is fantastic.
Maybe the “R” can be a bit more graphic and abstract by placing it off center on the front? I absolutely love the “R”s grouped together on the new trek bikes!

I really think black instead of grey would suit. I photoshoped the above image and tweaked with the settings and the black/red jersey looks good to me. For the ‘R’ on the sleeve, I also changed it from White to Red. Wear this modified jersey with the black/red Giro Ionos helmet, Red Oakleys and ride the new Madones.
All that being said, I’d like to say that the color red isn’t really good for a whole day of riding. I remember Johan once saying – in one of the “Race to Replace” videos – that the color red saps your energy.
En revanche, Team Cofidis did race in an all red kit – and guess what, they didn’t win a single UCI 1.1.

Kits like Rock Racing’s are not cool or edgy, they’re ridiculous and belong somewhere back in the late 90s. The jersey looks fine, clean and fit for a professional team not a Saturday morning group ride.

I came to the site to buy a Radio Shack jersey. The red is OK – Radio Shack color. I was looking for something with some flash. This is a boring disappointment.

I think the jersey looks like a strapless women’s dress worn over grey lingerie.

I would have expected a little better from Nike Design – if they are the ones who committed the new RS jersey. If they are not after selling a lot of kit the way US-Postal and DISCOVERY jerseys did – I guess it’s alright. I for sure won’t buy this kind of a feminine looking jersey.
