Matthew Busche

Matthew Busche (born May 9, 1985 in Iowa) is an American road racing cyclist who turned professional in 2009 riding for UCI Continental Pro Team Kelly Benefit Strategies. Though he has not had time to amass a lengthy record so far he has shown that he’s capable of solid performances in climbing stages and Time Trials against serious competition.

A college runner in cross-country, the 10k and the steeplechase, Busche (pronounced boo-SHAY) turned to cycling to stay fit while nursing a knee injury as a freshman. Though he went back to attain All American status as a collegiate runner, he decided to turn his full attention to cycling in 2008 where he quickly enjoyed success. At the start of the 2009 season he had the advantage of riding almost unknown, but that ended quickly as he distinguished himself as a name to be reckoned with in the many races he contested that year. His compelling results and untold potential have catapulted him from a Category 2 rider to the pinnacle of the sport in just 2 year’s time.

His results to date include: 2nd Best Amateur Competition Nature Valley GP, 3rd Stage 2 Gateway Cup in 2008, Wisconsin State Road and Time Trial Champion, 1st Proctor Cycling Classic, 5th overall Vuelta de Bisbee, 5th overall National Road Race Championships, 5th Stage 3 Vuelta Chihuahua International, 6th overall Univest Grand Prix in 2009.
