Li Fuyu (born May 9, 1978 in Shandong Province) is a Chinese road racing cyclist who most recently rode for the China-based UCI Continental Trek-Marco Polo Cycling Team. He turned professional in 2005 with Marco Polo riding with them for two seasons. In 2007 he signed with Discovery Channel becoming the first Chinese cyclist to ride on an elite Pro Tour team. When Discovery disbanded he returned to Marco Polo in 2008.
He was recruited into his local sports institute because of his running ability but in 1994 he asked to switch to cycling instead where he began to split his time between road, mountain and track riding disciplines. He was a member of the Chinese National Mountain Bike Team but his focus for some time has been on road racing. At 6’1” 170 pounds he is a standout among his countrymen where he enjoys a large following in part due to his successes riding in the China Games which are held every 4 years and have been known to rival the Olympics in popularity.
His major results include: 3rd overall Mountain Bike and 3rd overall Track Team Pursuit Asian Games in 1998, 1st China Games Road Race/National Road Race Champion 2005, 1st overall and 1st stage 3 Tour of Thailand, 1st overall GP Westfalen, 2nd Stage 4 Tour of Hainan, 3rd National Time Trial Championships, and 3rd National Road Race Championships in 2006, 1st Stage 1 Jelajah Malaysia Tour and 3rd National Road Race Championships in 2008, National Time Trial Champion, 2nd Prologue Tour of Qinghai Lake, 3rd National Road Race Championships in 2009.

Was,nt this guy busted for drugs in April? Why is he still on the team espeacially considering Lance’s strong anti doping stance.

Check out the article in cyclingnews.com about this: “De Boer, a biochemist from the University Hospital Maastricht and former director of the WADA-approved laboratory in Lisbon, Portugal, said the levels of the drug detected in Li’s sample are below those that would be expected in the case of intentional injestion. The value of 0.05-0.10 ng/mL that was found in Fuyu Li’s body points clearly in the direction of a contamination.” I know you guys might point to the Floyd Landis defense, but we should stick to due process and burden of proof.
