Levi Leipheimer
Levi Leipheimer
(born October 24, 1973 in Butte, Montana) is an American professional road bicycle racer who rides with UCI ProTeam Astana. He previously rode for Discovery Channel, Gerolsteiner, and Rabobank. In 2010 he will ride for Team Radioshack.
His major results are 1st overall in the 2009 Tour of California (winner of Stage 6 time trial), the 2008 Tour of California (winning the Stage 5 time trial), 2nd overall in the 2008 Vuelta a España (winning two stages), 1st overall in the 2007 Tour of California (winning the Prologue and Stage 5 time trials), 1st overall in the 2006 Dauphiné Libéré, 1st overall in the 2005 Deutschland Tour, 3rd overall in the 2001 Vuelta a España, and four top-ten finishes in the Tour de France general classification, including 3rd overall in 2007. He lives in Santa Rosa, California with his wife Odessa Gunn, though during the cycling season he primarily lives in Gerona, Spain. Leipheimer won the 2007 USA road championship, 1:11 seconds ahead of Discovery team mate and defending champion George Hincapie.
Leipheimer won the bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in the road time trial.

Double threat more like it. He also creates winning attitude early in the season for other support riders to get there game on. He intends to win races and compete not just be a lietenant. Great asset to the Team he will push the team and motivate everyone involved!

Way too early to say that Lance has a good chance to win at the next tour. So much of a grand tour victory is dependent on the assembled team and Radio Shack has yet to post a full roster.

I like Levi but I hope radioshack is not counting on him to be Lances ‘lieutenant”. Lance needs someone with a strong kick to help him in the mountains to have that job. Levi is pretty good in the mountains but does not have the kick to stay with the good climbers. Kloden or Popovitch would be good.

Grab onto a wheel Levi, and sit in your saddle and pound those gears out and just wait for the time trials to position yourself. Thats all you do. It’s a shame really, because if he just applied himself a bit more and quit following Lance and other big riders around he might of won a grand tour himself in his career. That aint gonna happen now. Good rider on great teams.

For Lance to do well at the TDF, a couple of these guys (Levi, Popo, Klody, or others) will need to put pressure on the Schleck Brothers, Wiggins, Contador, or whoever else is a threat to take the Yellow Jersey.
If Lance doesn’t get super strong support this year, he’s too old to do it on his own and won’t be able to beat the other contenders. But maybe with great support it can be done… it will definitely be interesting.
