It may not have been as off the cuff as they have been in the past but the Lance Armstrong twitter ride held this morning in Adelaide was the largest ever. Once the words “I can feel a twitter ride coming on” was out, the local media made sure everyone in South Australia knew about the Lance twitter ride and most turned out for the 30 kilometre ride North along the beach from Glenelg.

The Mayor of Glenelg had the streets closed around the park and the police provided rolling road closures for the 10,000 riders that included the full RadioShack team, Robbie McEwen and George Hincapie.

Armstrong, McEwen and Hincapie mingled with the crowd and talked to as many as possible crowding the front of the peloton.

Armstrong addressed the crowd before the ride and thanked them for turning out, “it official Dublin is now number 2, LA is number 3 and Adelaide is number 1” he said.
