Team Radioshack’s Lance Armstrong fell today in training near the end of a four hour ride. It happened when a cat darted out in front of him and he went over the top of the handlebars. He indicated that both he and the cat were fine.
“Back from a nice/easy 4 hr ride.” Lance Armstrong tweeted. “Well it was nice til that cat decided to run out right in front me and I go ass over bandbox. Wasn’t even a black cat. And for all you cat lovers, cat was fine. At least I never saw it again. Bad kitty.”
He also noted that he had some road rash and can be assumed he will be sore some tonight, but it seems as though he is fine. He is lucky he did not break a collarbone. Would not want to be the punch line of this joke: What does it take to stop a 7-time Tour champion? A stray cat.

I heard the cat responds to the name “El Pistolero”

When I read the headline “Lance Armstrong Takes a Spill in Training” I thought he was going to be arrested for stealing a spill. I have no idea what a spill is worth these days.
My next thought was “Hey coach get him some training wheels”
Then I stopped thinking

The Last time I spoke to Lance I told him to “stay on the bike”, sadly today he has come off and has some road rash. I hope he recovers quickly.

Who would have thought that a cat came out of nowhere, attacked, and won the race?
Darn cat!

As EKS said: 7 in a row!
No easy feat to achieve!
Good to see that Lance hasn’t lost his sense of humour.

next time… if it comes down to a 7x TdF winner (over 30 & goin for 8th) vs a stray cat… hum, u might think about just taking out the cat

Now, now, Cesaro, be nice to the cat!
I’m sure all can be accommodated! Lance just needs to build in a contingency for the wildly unexpected events!
Anyway, on the subject of El Pistolero, I don’t even count his 2007 TdF win as a genuine achievement. Let’s be honest, however dubious the circumstances, he really has Floyd Landis to thank for gifting it to him.
However, I will give him the 2009 win. Fair enough.
As any competitive athlete will tell you, to be at the top of your game from one year to the next takes some doing. So much can change from one week to the next. I know from personal experience.
Now, to be at the top for 7+ years in a row, that is a super-human effort!
I bow to the almighty Lance! Hail Lance!
Go TRS! Kick some derriere!!!!!!!!

Good thing Lance is doing okay…..
Otherwise, It could have been a CAT-astrophe…..(Iknow, too cliche)

Just as well that Lance is OK and that his injuries are minor.
After all, we wouldn’t want him to be left in a cat-atonic state (ha ha!).
Cheers.

With all the hoo-ha over Lance’s fall, it looks like Contador’s cat has been CAT-apulted into infamy.

Sorry to hear about Lance’s fall. Glad he’s OK! Looking forward to seeing Lance & Company in the Tour of California.
As a contribution to the above not so serious comments: What do you get when a cat crosses the road? A hurt “Arm” strong.

Seriously though, what is it with cats and cyclists?
I ride my MTB at Mission Trails (Missiontrails.org) and in one particular area we used to have a run in with a cat that used to attack the riders as they rode through. This part of the trail is now referred to as “El Gato”.

WELL YOU CAN’T SAY LANCE HASN’T HAD EVERYTHING THROWN AT HIM.

I never met a kitty I didn’t like. I bet lots of them would run in front of him, though.

My cat spotted me coming home on the bike and paced me for about 1/2 block, pretty cool.
Hope Lance doesn’t get cat scratch fever…
