Lance Armstrong, Floyd Landis together again?

Lance Armstrong, Floyd Landis together again?

It would make for an interesting story, no doubt. And don’t count it out.

But several scenarios would need to unfold for Floyd Landis to ride for Lance Armstrong’s new Team RadioShack in 2010.

The possibility of Landis, who currently rides for the California-based Team OUCH, reuniting with Armstrong has been discussed in the media for a few weeks.

And as the roster for RadioShack begins to expand nearly daily, Armstrong said he wouldn’t rule out Landis joining the team.

Early in his reign as the seven-time Tour de France titlist, Armstrong hand-picked Landis just prior to the 2002 Tour de France for the U.S. Postal Service squad. Landis subsequently helped Armstrong claim three of his Tour de France titles.

Landis went on to win the 2006 Tour de France with Phonak, the year following Armstrong’s retirement. But Landis was stripped of his title via his well-documented illegal testosterone-epitestosterone ratio.

Three years later, Floyd Landis is now nearing the end of his first season following a two-year suspension. He’s competing this weekend in the USPro Championships in Greenville, S.C.

Landis heard about Lance Armstrong’s comments and was equally open-minded.

In an interview with Bonnie Ford of ESPN.com, Landis, 33, said he’s under contract through 2010 with OUCH, the southern California private medical management company whose staff includes the physician who resurfaced Landis’ hip.

According to the article, the OUCH squad is seeking new sponsorship for 2010. If OUCH wasn’t a team next year, Landis could seek employment elsewhere.

“I don’t think Lance was trying to start a rumor; he was responding to a question,” said Landis about the possibility first reported on Bloomberg.com. “He wants to win another Tour, and he’s trying to hire guys who can help him do that. I was his teammate and he knows he can count on me. Why rule anything out?”

And an update:

Floyd has just posted via Twitter: “Off to bed after some great business meetings. The future looks great! Headed to Greenville in the A.M. Good night all.”
