Could pro cycling be returning to the Rockies?
Lance Armstrong and Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter have previously talked about reviving the Coors Classic bicycle race in Colorado.
The pair is set to make some kind of announcement Wednesday in Denver but they’re not saying what it’s about. The governor’s office does say that Lance Armstrong will lead fans on a ride following the event at the Capitol.
The seven-time Tour de France winner has a home in Aspen.
Colorado had a stage race in the 1970s and 1980s known first as the Red Zinger Classic and later as the Coors Classic, which grew to include two weeks of racing in California, Nevada and Colorado. Stages in some years were also held in Hawaii and Wyoming.
It ended after 1988 because of a lack of sponsors.

After losing the Tour of Missouri, it would be wonderful to get some high profile bike races going again in the states!

Nice to see a road bike series in the mountains and not just mountain bike races. Hope to see most of the stages!!

I think it’s great they bring back the coors classic but it needs to include the tour of the moon in Grand Junction. Truly a grueling ride and needs to be part of this classic.
