A few days ago Haimar Zubeldia from Team Radioshack won his first individual stage victory in more than ten years, when he won the prologue in Tour de l’Ain. He did lose his leading jersey, but after the final stage today Haimar Zubeldia was 1st in the final general classification.
The 126km long stage took the riders from Culoz to Belley. 35km before the arrival the peloton passed Col du Grand Colombier and the peloton was ripped apart.
Eight riders were fighting for the stage win, but as the current general classification leader Tony Gallopin from Cofidis was down in the peloton, the eight riders were fighting for the final GCs.
Wouter Poels (Vacansoleil) won the stage ahead of David Moncoutie (Cofidis) and Thibault Pinot (Francaise des Jeux).
Haimar Zubeldia finished fourth on the stage, in the same time as the first three riders, and just a few hundredths of a second from the prologue made it possible for Zubeldia to win Tour de l’Ain.
Congratulations to Haimar Zubeldia and Team Radioshack.
