Lance Armstrong is a seven-time Tour de France champion and philanthropist. And according to an article posted Wednesday on Forbes.com, he’s also the most influential athlete in the country.
Forbes used data compiled by E-Poll Market Research. The company gathers polling data on 5,000 celebrities on 46 attributes.
The company says more than half of all Americans recognize Lance Armstrong’s name. Nearly one-third view him as “influential.” And 46 percent “like him a lot.”
Here are the other athletes who made the top 10. Note that a certain infamous golfer isn’t there: 2. LeBron James (NBA), 3. Tim Tebow (college football), 4. Shaun White (snowboarder), 5. Shaquille O’Neal (NBA), 6. Peyton Manning (NFL), 7. Kevin Garnett (NBA), 8. Kobe Bryant (NBA), 9. Apolo Anton Ohno (short-track speedskating), 10. Dwayne Wade (NBA)
