Good comments by all. Would be sad to see this team without the great Levi Leipheimer. Rumors still fly, half fueled by him as he response to questions about his future with, “we’ll see.” Please Levi, consider STAYING! Some good news though, Jes Voigt is BACK for 2012! Extended his contract for another year, and he’ll be powering this team for another season like only the biggest engine in the sport of cycling can. You can bet the Schlecks, Koden, Horner, Johann ..heck everyone, is breathing a sigh of relief at that news.

I would like to see a new regulation within the governing body UCI . This new regulation should be titled “Horner’s Law” stating any cyclist who loses consciousness while in the act of a pro cycling competition or event shall not be allowed to resume competing in that event race. I want you to know this unfortunate accident you had could equate to a fortunate future by saving the life of a fellow competitor. The close of your season should not be a disappointment in regard of “Horner’s Law” but should be put into a positive and productive perspective that you were a messenger for the UCI to save lives with common sense.

I’m thankful for the series of miracles that you are still with us Chris.
I’m your greatest fan and your loss in France and Colorado deflated the greatest freakin American fight you were prepared to podium with.
I believe in you and want you to drive on with your gifted focus for your renewed contract and future Grand Prix Tour victories.
You have the ultimate mindset and discipline to do more great damage in the field of competition

Agree with the others. Why the heck wasn’t LA the main man last year (even though I suspect he was)? With some luck and team work he could have beaten AC (as he also could have in 2009!) So many good riders but doesn’t seem to be any plan like the other big teams.

All respect to Johan who has a pretty fantastic record however….just disappointed for the guys.

This is the second year of Team Radio shack in the Tour De France and the second year the team has ridden without a defined team leader. The team commits suicide by riding scattered throughout the peleton. Select a team leader and protect him by riding as a group near the front of the peleton.

have been following Tour on Sky and I strongly feel that Levi has still a chance of winning the GC in Paris. but for his loss of time owing to early bad luck crashes he would now be very close up. even so he is barely 6 mins behind Frank Schleck. great ride today (stage 12). the team must ride as a team and continue supporting each other and be confident that the bad luck is behind them and that they CAN fly under the radar and pull it off.

Something is very wrong with the TDF, for two years in a row we have many seen top riders crash out because of dangerous courses, not only our own guys, but other teams as well. The teams and the public need to speak up when so many good, experienced riders are seriously injured in the first week. The jersies are quickly becoming survival of the luckiest, rather than competition of the best.

Robbie is my all time favorite sprinter. No one made it more exciting. Watching him come out of nowhere to grab the win — I can’t count how many times I’ve marveled at him doing that. Wish he was on the tour team. I think that was a big mistake for Johan as the shack does not have a legitimate contender to win it all. Would have been nice to see Robbie mixing it up for a few wins in the sprints.

It was very sad to see what happened to Jani today. We just all hope he gets better. I know now it was a real blow for the whole team to loose him, and I know Popo has injures to nurse. I hope you can all keep your spirits and motivation up. Including most of all Jani, I know it was very difficult for him to leave this years tour, but I doubt it will be long before he will be back training to be ready for next years tour. He most certainly has a future there.

Popo is one of the best super-domestiques of all time. A great rider with a long list of individual accomplishments, I agree it would be wonderful to see him go for a stage. It could happen. But he is simply so valuable in support of the overall general classification efforts that letting him burn up his reserves for a one-off accomplishment would be poor team strategy. I’d have to say, if you do see Yaroslov jumping out ahead trying for a stage win, it will likely signal one of two things; the team has the GC so safely in the bag that he gets a green light or two (more likely), we’re so far out of contention that he’s allowed individual triumphs. I’d love to see him go for it, he’s an amazing talent, but I also know that might mean we’ve thrown in the towel on the GC.

It was extremely thrilling for a first day! That said the fact that a spectator caused such a crash was really appalling! In my opinion they should be held accountable. Its great to see fans come out to support but people need to learn to stay out of the way! I was very happy that the top contenders from the team were able to stay out of it but it was very nerve wracking for several moments until I saw Chris, and Andreas. At first I was worried for jani and levi but its nice to know they came clean of the first accident and gained the time back. I noticed a large majority of the race that the radioshack riders were relatively split up in several different parts of the peloton. It seemed at the time like that it may be a strategy that incase of an accident it wouldn’t wipe out all the contenders? Anyway…good start to what should be a pretty interesting tour, really proves anything can happen when it comes to that GC board. Good luck tomorrow guys, stay safe and your golden!

BTW, while I am not in the market for a car at the moment, I own a Trek, and since Radio Shack began sponsorship of the team I have made it a point to pick up any and all electronic supplier from them. I believe you have to give back to the companies that support our team. Perhaps two years from now I will be in a Nissan.

respect for american rider s in american team but I think only Jani is the one who can beat Alberto in this year Tour de France and if team will not work for him there will be no RS rider in top 8 at the end.
Jani is only rider who already prof that he can beat Alberto in one to one last year on Duphine.

I agree with Scott Christy’s comment, the team will likely solidify around whoever is riding the strongest come July. Levi certainly has the experience and the record to lead the team, but it will be interesting to see how well Chris Horner’s recent time out from racing will work. It’s still a bit early for Jani to be running a squad of this caliber in a grand tour, but one never knows, he was pretty convincing in a couple of outings so far. And what can you say about Kloden, a great rider who is having an exceptional season. With 4 potential podium riders, and a team devoted to the GC rather than stage wins or specialty jerseys, I’d have to bet that the rest of the peleton is not taking RadioShack lightly at this year’s event (as Armen’s first comment seems to suggest). Contador is surely the strong favorite, and Andy Schleck and the Leopard-Trek folks are fielding a powerful team, but lots can happen over the course of a month. If our guys can hang on in the mountain stages we know how well they do in TTs! Can’t wait!

Seemingly the GC leader is the man with the best legs.
Chris Horner was recently quoted as saying that “The only man whoc can ride away from me is Contador”.
Looking at his record this year, that seems to be the case. Levi is quite the savvy rider, but Chris is no slouch in the brains department either. I say the team should follow the ‘Leader’.

We are not really without Lance at this year’s tour. The smart riders have adopted his training methods and discipline. The smart teams use his strategies and techniques to win the grand tours and other important races. Most cyclists now power up the climbs in a smaller gear at much higher cadence – a technique that Lance and Chris Carmichael introduced to limit strain and damage on muscles and to conserve precious energy. (Unfortunately, most athletes are not blessed with the ability to convert oxygen to energy that Lance possesses!)

In addition, countless millions of fans and cyclists still wear the yellow wristband as a tribute to the battle against cancer and to survivors as well as those who have lost the fight. As a cancer survivor and cyclist, as I watch the tour this year I will still gain inspiration from all who have been touched by the disease including Lance.

So shed no tears for the “loss’ of Lance. He has made an indelible stamp on cycling and on Cancer Survivorshipp that will not soon be forgotten.

I am just a fan and far from any descent knowledge of bysicling. The Radioshack has great indiual riders and the four: Levi, Chris , Andreas and Jani can get in the top ten or probably five of the Tour. They are all bunched around the RadioShack team concept but my observation is that non of the RadioShak’s riders is a true leader. They may again repead the team first plce.

Levi won’t finish in the top 15 unless there are injuries the guy never attacks he just rides and hopes the others will have bad days. This is a guy who has made a career of winning less prestigious races and never living up to hype which I think is undeserved .

Happy to see the teams still focusing on the GC!!! …Good luck guys! I would be happy to cheer for Jani, Horner, levi, or kloden as team leaders… whoever shows me what is in their legs!

I feel a little silly voting for team leader – Although I know its good PR and a great way to build fan interes. The truth is that only Johan has the expertise and vantage point to know the best selection for team leader. HaBut here’s my two cents anyway. I’ld like to see something new tried. Popo hasn’t lead a team in a Grand Tour. He has been a superhuman lieutenant helping to win many. Wouldn’t it be great to see him go for it! To give a Guy like that the opportunity to race in a different way, to try to Win the Tour. Wow how exciting for us fans – Many of us relating also having been ‘work horses too’.

Levi is an excellent racer and very successful. He has already been co-leader in the Tour. He misses the mark of the dynamic personality & rides in the Tour. (Sorry Levi – I solute u for all your success) He, Klodën and Chris will provide extraordinary leadership as lieutenants anchoring the team, gluing them together and keeping alot of pressure of of Popo.

But alas, my fantasy Tour team is just that…a fantasy. Because I don’t think Popo wants the lead. Even with as hard as he rides. I think I remember Lance saying that in some form with gratitude of course.

So Johan, show us your expertise. U know these guys and the best configuration to ride the best tour. I am excited to see what u all can do.

Do not envy Bruyneel the situation, but it goes to his credit that he has such a well developed Team, I am sure he will make the best decision. I could not choose among Kloden, Horner, and Leipheimer, although Horner has the edge for sentimental reasons: he rode for a friend’s husband the last week of the 2010 TDF, was so nice to her, as the entire team and staff were to all of us at the Tour.
