Bjorn Selander

Bjorn Selander (born January 28, 1988 in Hudson, Wisconsin) is an American professional road racing cyclist who turned professional in 2009 riding for the Trek Livestrong Team.   Trek Livestrong is Lance Armstrong’s Under-23 development squad directed by retired cyclist Axel Merckx whose goal is to maintain a feeder group for Team RadioShack by giving training and providing experience to young new talented riders.

Like Merckx, Selander is the son of a former professional cyclist, which is how he took an interest in cycling early on when he began competing in BMX races at the age of 8.  He moved into Cyclocross and road racing and progressed rapidly in both.   Still breaking new ground at an early age, he has the distinction of becoming the youngest rider, at 21, to sign on to Team RadioShack with a 2-year deal.

His results to date include:  National Junior Cyclocross Champion in 2005, 6th overall World Junior Cyclocross Championships in 2006, U23 National Cyclocross Champion in 2007, 1st Stage 2 Tour of Belize, 1st Stage 3 (TTT) Tour of Belize, 1st U23 USGP Cyclocross #4 Mercer Cup and 4th overall Izegem-Bosmolens in 2008, 2nd U23 National TT Championships, 2nd Stage 6 and 5th overall Tour de Beauce, 3rd Best Rider Competition Flèche de Sud, and 8th overall U23 National Road Race Championships, in 2009.
