Ben Hermans

Ben Hermans (born June 8, 1986 in Hasselt) is a professional road racing cyclist from Belgium who turned pro in 2009 riding for the UCI Pro Continental Team Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator.   Transport Vlaanderen has earned a reputation through the years for finding and developing promising talents that go on to top Pro Team success.  They found Hermans who had been compiling racing stats riding as an amateur for Belgium-based Davo Cycling Team since 2007.

He’s a gifted climber and good time trialest, however, for now as expected, he will be assigned a domestique role to the other riders in most races.  He is more than fine with that saying his transfer to Team RadioShack, “is a dream come true.” One place where he won’t be riding support is in some of the classics in the mountains of the Ardennes (a famous cycling region primarily in Belgium that crosses into Luxembourg and France).  Directeur Sportif Dirk Demol, who knows the region well, has said that Hermans will have free reign there.

His results to date include:  National Juniors Time Trial Champion 2004, 2nd Stage 2 and 2nd overall U23 Ronde de l’Isard d’Argiège, 1st Circuit du Hainaut, 1st GP des Marbriers, 1st Provincial Championship Limburg Road Race, 2nd U23 National Road Race Championships, 2nd Aiken, 2nd in both Stage 2 and 6 Tour de Namur, 3rd Provincial Time Trial Championships Limburg in 2008, Leader’s Jersey-one stage and 2nd and 3rd in Stages 2 and 3 Vuelta a Burgos, 2nd overall GP Kanton Argau-Gippingen. 3rd Stage 1 Tour de la Région Wallonne, in 2009.
